Endeavors Considered Pioneered

Initiation and development of family planning courses in medical schools: 1965 - 1967 University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine, Philadelphia (initiation). 1966 - 1969 New York University School of Medicine, New York.  (initiation). 1970 - 1974 National Defense Medical College, Taipei  (initiation). 1974 - 1980 University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine (development).

Initiated training in family planning for paramedical, auxiliary, and community workers. As early as 1966 when I initiated and directed a series of seminars on onception Control and Human Reproduction” at New York University, I included nurses, social workers, school teachers, and clergy. The Maternity Child Health Demonstration Project I led in Taiwan initiated the first family planning course for practicing midwives.

Instigation of the use of pap smear testing as a preventive measure in gynecological care in Taiwan, R.O.C. Before efforts were made to promote this practice as part of the Maternity Child Health Demonstration Project (which I led, 1970-4), the pap-smear test was rarely used in Taiwan.
